slmodemd process hogging access to /dev/snd devices -> Codec + Mixer: Realtek ALC660-VD - ALC660-VD Analog [ALC660-VD Analog] Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller [8086:284b] (rev 03) - no sound on Asus Z53Sv in Ubuntu 9.10 - using ALSA driver version 1.0.20

Asked by j.rodrigues

Hello.

I have an Asus Z53Sv with ubuntu 9.10 and I have sound problems.

At first, I had no sound. I tried to add this lines

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=auto

to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, and it worked.

But know it is weird. Some times I have sound, others I don't. When I don't have sound, I delete the new lines that I've putted and, after a reboot, it is fine. Next time I have to do the inverse (put the lines back again) so that I can have sound.

For example, a couple hours ago I had sound. Now I don't.

Can you help me please?

I noticed the following in your ALSA output:

# Modprobe options (Sound related)
# --------------------------------
#
# snd-atiixp-modem: index=-2
# snd-intel8x0m: index=-2
# snd-via82xx-modem: index=-2
# snd-usb-audio: index=-2
# snd-usb-us122l: index=-2
# snd-usb-usx2y: index=-2
# snd-usb-caiaq: index=-2
# snd-cmipci: mpu_port=0x330 fm_port=0x388
# snd-pcsp: index=-2
# snd-hda-intel: power_save=10 power_save_controller=N
# snd-hda-intel: model=lenovo

Did you first remove the model=lenovo model option before trying all the other model options which are mentioned below?

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+question/82988

Make sure to not use different model options at the same time in your alsa-base.conf file.
