Cannot record audio in karmic using audigy 4

I cannot get audio recording to work anymore in karmic, though it works fine in jaunty:
- Put all levels in alsamixer to the maximum
- Checked all possible hardware profiles in the sound properties
- Tested with all possible input channels
Nevertheless, neither audacity nor the default sound recorder record anything except silence.
Hardware is an audigy 4 (though listed as Creative Labs SB0400 Audigy2 Value)
Any hints are much appreciated. Thanks!
