no sound on laptop toshiba LP45

hi, i had a toshiba laptop LP45 that i installed ubuntu 9.04 to it but it doesnt let me hear any sound from tha laptop, the rest works perfectlly but the sound its not working, how can I make it sound? or what programs do I need to re-establish? i hope youcan answer as soon as you can thanks
