One solution might be to edit the etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file and add the following line at the end of the file.

options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

reboot the system and test your audio configuration (in System --> Preferences --> Sound).

Good luck

Hi,

Please try this procedure:

1. copy-paste the following command into the Terminal:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

2. and add these lines to the end of the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file:

# Keep snd-pcsp from being loaded as first soundcard
options snd-pcsp index=-2
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m4-1
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

3. Then navigate to System>Preferences>Sound and change everything to ALSA

4. copy-paste the following command into the Terminal:

gksudo gedit /etc/group

5. replace the following line (or something very similar to it):

audio:x:29:pulse

with this line:

audio:x:29:cyberhawk027,pulse

6. reboot and retest sound

7. In the Mixer control panel, make sure to unmute all channels and increase the volume on all channels

8. If the dell-m4-1 alsa-base.conf option does not work, please try one of the following, reboot your pc and retest sound:

 STAC92HD71B*
   ref Reference board
   dell-m4-1 Dell desktops
   dell-m4-2 Dell desktops

Regards,

Mark

According to the ALSA information script you sent us, the Master volume in gnome-alsamixer is muted:

  45. Simple mixer control 'Master',0
  46. Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined
  47. Playback channels: Mono
  48. Limits: Playback 0 - 127
  49. Mono: Playback 0 [0%] [-95.25dB] [off]

Please unmute the Master channel and increase the volume to 90%. Make sure the PCM and Front channels are unmuted and set to 90% as well.

Hi,

Please a separate thread for each new question you have. 1 question per thread.

It will cause confusion for visitors if we start discussing other issues on this sound thread.

Regards and thanks for your understanding,

Mark
