Thanks for the reply....

when i entered the command

 wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh

my server was not able to connect to the specified path. So, i went to the given website "www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh" and saved that page as "alsa-info.sh" and ran the second command, which was

bash alsa-info.sh --pastebin

and this is output that i got

nagender@nagender-laptop:~$ bash alsa-info.sh --pastebin

It does not work, because it seems you do not have an internet connection in Ubuntu 9.04.
Please connect the pc to the internet and then send us the output from step 3 and step 4 from
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

And please try sending the alsa-info output with and without the --pastebin option

It could also be that your Internet provider has DNS issues. I can access the site http://www.alsa-project.org

Try these commands instead:

wget -O alsa-info.sh http://212.20.107.51/alsa-info.sh
bash alsa-info.sh --pastebin

And these as well:

Step 4

Please copy&paste the following command into the Linux Terminal. Please do not copy&paste this command from an email message into the Terminal, as that will only copy part of the command. The command starts with the command CAT and ends with the filter SND. So, please copy&paste the entire command below into a Terminal. Press enter. Then type your normal user password when asked, no stars are given as you type. Then press enter again.

cat /proc/asound/cards; sudo aptitude install gnome-alsamixer asoundconf-gtk alsa-utils flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound; asoundconf list; aplay -l; sudo lshw -C sound; ls -lart /dev/snd; cat /dev/sndstat; lspci -nn; sudo which alsactl; lsmod | grep snd

I can also access the website from the browser...but cannot access it through the terminal...i am connected through a proxy server.

and this is the output the command in step4 is giving...

nagender@nagender-laptop:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards; sudo aptitude install gnome-alsamixer asoundconf-gtk alsa-utils flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound; asoundconf list; aplay -l; sudo lshw -C sound; ls -lart /dev/snd; cat /dev/sndstat; lspci -nn; sudo which alsactl; lsmod | grep snd

Hi,

Please try this procedure:

1. copy-paste the following command into the Terminal:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

2. and add these lines to the end of the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file:

# Keep snd-pcsp from being loaded as first soundcard
options snd-pcsp index=-2
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m4-1
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

3. Then navigate to System>Preferences>Sound and change everything to ALSA

4. copy-paste the following command into the Terminal:

gksudo gedit /etc/group

5. replace the following line (or something very similar to it):

audio:x:29:pulse

with this line:

audio:x:29:nagender,pulse

6. reboot and retest sound

7. In the Mixer control panel, make sure to unmute all channels and increase the volume on all channels

8. If the dell-m4-1 alsa-base.conf option does not work, please try one of the following, reboot your pc and retest sound:

 STAC92HD71B*
   ref Reference board
   dell-m4-1 Dell desktops
   dell-m4-2 Dell desktops

Regards,

Mark
