Codec: VIA VT1708B 8-Ch - Mixer: Nvidia MCP78 HDMI - VT1708B Analog [VT1708B Analog] Audio device [0403]: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] High Definition Audio [10de:0774] (rev a1)- sound works in Youtube, but not in Rhythmbox 2.0.2 in Ubuntu 9.04 - using ALSA driver 1.0.21

Asked by sophiet

I'm following the outlined procedure provided here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

My pastebin: http://pastebin.ca/1572404

I have updated all my ALSA stuff, and had sound working for a little bit, but no longer. It's an ASUS motherboard, and I have the book, but for the life of me cannot figure out why the sound controls say NVIDIA which seems to be a graphics card thing.

I have tried different headphones, different programs, I have made sure the sound was not on mute and that it was turned up.

I messed around with GNOME ALSA Mixer, and have sound from youtube, but not from Rhythmbox (V2.0.2) which is what I was mainly using for testing. Totem Movie Player has no sound, and neither does Skype or Digsby.

I am quite confused. I am on a dual-boot with Windows, but when Windows boots it doesn't detect mice (I've tried several) or the keyboard. So I guess I have to fix that before I can make sure the sound is turned up over there.
