No Sound in Ubuntu 9.04 OS .

Asked by Moh'd Faisal

I am new to Ubuntu. I Just Install Ubuntu 9.04 thrice( I guess... ) dual boot with windows XP. I have sound working on XP but I am experiencing no sound in Ubuntu. I am using Sigmatel STAC9211 A1 audio driver on Intel Core2 duo with 1GB DDR2 Ram.

I have visited various forums and I have no PCM, Master or any other option in Volume Control as muted.Everything is maximum yet no sound.

When I searched for my audio driver model in Alsa Cofguration.txt I found out
Codec Sigmatel STAC9211 A1
3stack
5stack as the only to type ,Although I don't know what it is

I have not tried too much on ALSA and all as I am new to It and Dont know the effects of various alsa commands.

I just want to have sound working on my desktop even if it can be done through some package download or changing ALSA to OSS I am ready to do that.

Any help will be highly appreciated. I can provide you terminal output for any command you want.

Thanks alot Mark you are great. Finally Sound working.

Actually when previously I tried to install the alsa-utils it was showing that lpanelw library not found and hence was not installing alsa-utils but after following step 1 of the SoundTroubleshootingProcedure, i got the command line code to overcome my problem. Everything is working fine now.
