The sound setting for Skype are in Skype and not in the computer sound settings. Go Skype>Sbutton(bottom left)>Options>Sound Devices.

In the past, when using a headset, I have had to change the settings to the option with "hw" in it. The new beta, available from the Skype website, seems to have ironed out most of the problems with sound, in and out of the soundcard. (I'm still having problems with mu USB Internet Phone.)

Experiment with your options on "Microphone" and "Speakers" ( used to be called "Sound In" and "Sound Out") Apply. Make a Test Noise and Make a Test Call.
