no sound in ubuntu cq40-317tu

I am using ubuntu jaunty, cant get any sound. I use pentium dual core with 1 GB ram

Hi :)

Try clicking the speaker icon on the top taskbar and then click the "Volume Control" button. This should bring a mixer window with a few channels shown. Try clicking on the "Preferences" and add a few new channels until you have; Master, Pcm, Front, Surround, Center. Make sure none of these are muted and also wobble the level of each down and up again, sometimes they get stuck. Also check that your speakers are plugged in to the correct socket on your machine. It's usually one of the green ones.
