have very little sound

never used ubunto before tried to listen to the us open but hardly any sound please help me

you see a speaker icon on the top right of task bar? click on that and check whether it is upto its maximum. And now click on volume control and increase the 'master' and 'PCM' to its maximum.
It may increase your volume.

Yes that little button you see when you click the icon is very handy. It brings up a mixer which most people have to add a few channels to in order to get the Master, PCM, Front, Surround & Centre all visible.
