Crackley Sound since last ubuntu package update

Asked by New2Ubuntu

i'm running jaunty 9.04 on a samsung nc10 (I know the issue re:the mic and this pc) however since the last update a couple of days ago via update manager my sound is not working properly. if I test this using system\preferences etc I just get a crackly distortion. the ubuntu 'theme' does not play either when logging in. has anyone else noticed this since the last update manager ran (or it may have been the one before).

thanks in advance for any help

thanks for the response tom

i normally use pulse audio so I did not check the settings on gnome alsa. i found that the PCM setting was at zero. this must have happened after the package update.

normal service is resumed for me

Brilliant, thanks :)))
The Pcm level does seem very glitchy in 9.04. I'm sure it was ok in 8.10 and 8.04 - i haven't tried it in 9.10 yet, i guess someone should.

Anyway, i am glad to hear you pinned it down and fixed it!
Congrats and regards from
Tom :)
