automute front speakers when using phones

Asked by nokangaroo

I am using 32-bit jaunty on an iMac 7.1. With model=mbp3 in my modprobe.d/options I get sound in headphones and front speakers at the same time. With the device set to Realtek ALC889A (OSS Mixer) I get a separate phone-out switch, but the sound still comes from the front speakers as well. Is there a way to regulate sound independently? The function keys on my keyboard seem only to control both at the same time.

Solved - Uncheck "Speaker" in the "Switches" tab in Volume Control. This gives sound in headphones alone.

Lol, dohhh. I had a horrible feeling this was going to turn into one of those really tough nightmarish questions where i sneak away and hide behind Mark or someone. I'm really glad you found an 'easy' 'obvious' answer (hindsight is great isn't it ;) )

Congrats & regards from
Tom :)
