Alsamixer

Asked by Robin Hall

In Ubuntu 9.4 when using Skype I can receive the test call message but not my recorded message.

I have never been able to record anything on Sound Recorder in any of the 3 versions of Ubuntu I have so far used.

Using Audacity I can record but not hear my played back recorded message but the infuriating part it is not always so in that having been able to record my voice and have it played back, I can switch my computer on later and be able to record but not hear anything when playing back my recording..

Since I can hear my own voice and breathing in my headset there can be nothing wrong with it.

Would like to know what are considered to be the critical settings in Alsamixer or anywhere else that may go towards solving this problem.
I have now scoured the Internet and every helpline I can find in an effort to find a solution to my problem as, I am presently maintaining a dual boot system on my computer (Windows XP and Ubuntu) but am retaining XP for the sole purpose of using Skype.

I am now able to record and playback messages on Audacity. I think this is due to choosing Channel 6 in Alsamixer.

However while I can receive the test message in Skype my reply does not get played back to me. I think that this means there is something wrong with Skype's Linux version.
