Thanks Blas :)

It might be worth sorting out the rest of your multimedia and hope that magically fixes sound in the process

I opted for non-free components although i've not had to pay anything for that. One day i hope to go completely OpenSource and really free myself but not today :)

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Maybe a last try

could this be the problem? I have a ATI but the driver in use is HDA? if I understand right

Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
        Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 3045
Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 16
        Memory at d2400000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
        Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
        Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel

Th troubleshoot says:

This is the steps that were necessary to get a Dell Dimension E520 with Intel HDA and SigmaTel STAC9227 Codec to work after upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04:

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf #should I do this still#

This part will depend on your soundcard, it consists of the module name (snd-hda-intel) and the model I found in ALSA-Configuration.txt, 5stack:

options snd-hda-intel model=? whcih should I choose

My choices are

ALC267/268

 843 quanta-il1 Quanta IL1 mini-notebook

 844 3stack 3-stack model

 845 toshiba Toshiba A205

 846 acer Acer laptops

 847 acer-aspire Acer Aspire One

848 dell Dell OEM laptops (Vostro 1200)

 849 zepto Zepto laptops

anyone that can help would be nice!!

thanks again

Hi :)

Have you been able to try the new Ubuntu 10.04 before it gets officially released?
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/testing/lucid/beta2
Trying it as a LiveCd or as an extra dual/multi-boot would be ideal. Developers and everyone are keen to try to iron out any problems before 10.04 gets officially released so you might find faster & more effective answers to your bug reports which would make 10.04 work better on your system for you

Thanks and regards from
Tom :)
