can't install Creative Extigy soundcard in Ubuntu 9.04. ran fine in XP

Asked by stevieb

I tried to install Creative Extigy external soundcard from within WINE, and the installation froze. I know this is an old soundcard, but one of the only ones I can use as a midi interface with the digital piano I have. Windows Vista doesn't support it, and Creative don't have any drivers supported by Vista either. It always ran fine in XP, however the desktop finally died. Are there any suggestions? Any reliable way of getting it to run would be nice, as I can't create any music without it.

Thanks

Steve B

You can proceed in two ways. Either disable the onboard sound chip on your motherboard (via BIOS) or ... with the soundcard connected ...

Open a terminal (Applications, Accessories, Terminal) and type: sudo asoundconf set-default-card Extigy
Then press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.

You should hear sound as Ubuntu restarts.

Can you help with this problem?
