Which microphone jack are you trying to use, Front or Rear? You may need to change settings in alsamixer:

Simple mixer control 'Input Source',0
  Capabilities: cenum
  Items: 'Front Mic' 'Rear Mic' 'Line'
  Item0: 'Front Mic'
