Sound card seen but not heard

I've installed Ubuntu 20.04 on a new Dell Inspirion 24 5000. At first I got the "Dummy Audio" problem and could only hear sound in the headphones Also I could see that the mic was receiving input (the bars would move with my speech) After visiting just about every thread on the forum, I was able to edit the alsa-base.config file and get the sound card to be seen by the settings panel. However, now I have choices for output devices but now nothing is giving me sound -- No headphones no speakers and the mic is dead.
