Alsa sound problem: No audio devices but Jack works

I recently installed Ubuntu 20.04 on two different laptops, an Acer Aspire ES1-512 and a Macbook Pro 15 from 2006.
For the Acer I installed Kubuntu and then added Ubuntu Studio. After working with Jack to get sound from Hydrogen et al I stopped QJackCtl and found that the Audio device, an Intel HDA had disappeared and in its place was a "Dummy" device. Sound continues to work through Jack with Hydrogen, Ardour, etc but not through "regular" conent such as Chrome, YouTube, etc.

Hello
After running the "Step 4" commands on the Macbook the audio interface still showed Dummy through Pavucontrol but I started working through the Audio configurations in the Studio controls which helped sort everything out. I now have sound in both the Jack / Studio environment as well as the desktop environment on the Macbook.
So, this is a "configuration" issue?
If someone could comment on this situation and / or refer me to another location where I could become more enlightened I'd appreciate it.
Thank you for letting me pollute the group with an apparently "Not your problem" problem.
