Sound card not recognised after Ubuntu kernel update
Hi all,
After an update of Ubuntu (which updated the kernel too) this 17 March 2020, I can't have sound any more. No soundcards are detected any I have a "dummy output" in the sound pannel in settings.
I already tried a lot a things, including reinstalling the drivers:
sudo apt-get remove --purge alsa-base pulseaudio
sudo apt-get install alsa-base pulseaudio
sudo alsa force-reload
I reinstalled Ubuntu as well but the problem still exists. However I noticed that the sound is working when I am using the Ubuntu on a live USB, because the kernel version is different. I will show you the output of ALSA Information script FOR BOTH CASES.

If you boot an old kernel is it okay?

Additional information, my laptop is Dell Vostro 15 7590. The kernel 5.3.0-40-generic works.

Thank you all for your messages guys, I finally downgraded the Linux kernel (currently 5.3.0-28-generic) and eveythings looks fine. There is definitely a bug with the kernel 5.3.0-42-generic.

I followed these instructions:
1. Edit /etc/modprobe.
2. Edit /etc/modprobe.
3. After making these changes, reboot your system.
Tested with 5.3.0-45-generic kernel.
