Sound Device not available... cannot find any fix

I have a soundbar hooked up via spdif and I cannot get ubuntu, alsa, etc to recognize the device at all. All connections work fine (and tested) I ran through the sound troubleshooting guide and it got me no where...Here is to hoping one of you can help. let me know if/what additional command output you would like to see. thanks
