No sound

Asked by Daniel Cogswell on 2019-11-04

The sound on my HP ENVY with built in speakers worked when I started 2 years ago. It completely stopped about a year ago. I've been trying to fix since then and have been thru all the tutorials, including this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

I've just upgraded to ubuntu 18.04 and still no sound.

Just ran this:
wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && chmod +x ./alsa-info.sh && ./alsa-info.sh

And get this output:
http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=44e5c1aaa21f7db8f235af1b6582345a179bfafb

Not sure what's next.
Thanks,
Dan

Here's that output, since one site said to paste it into the question:

Do you get sound in headphones?

Have you tried using pavucontrol?

Did not have a bionic version for 18.04.
I found hdajackretask from alsa-tools-gui.
When I run it, I get the msg at the top: No codecs found. Sorry

Daniel Cogswell (dancogswell) said : #5

I went to PulseAudio and, in Configuration, selected another profile. Then switched back to Analog Stereo Duplex, and now I have sound.
