No sound on fresh xubuntu install, already tried every solution on the web

I recently installed xUbuntu 18.04 on my laptop. It is a very low-end netbook and Windows 10 was just way too much for it so I decided to switch to xUbuntu.
Everything runs smoothly and much better than on Windows. But when I tried to watch videos, that's when issues started to arise. First, I noticed how videos went 2 times faster or maybe even faster that the normal speed. That was done when I installed flash player. But I also had the problem that the laptop didn't have audio. At first I thought the problem were my headphones but the built-in speakers weren't working either, so it was a xubuntu problem.
After trying every solution I could find on the web I still have not been able to fix the audio issue. I'm following the Sound Troubleshooting Procedure guideline available on Ubuntu Community Help Wiki.

Thanks for answering. I have tried Mozilla firefox and Chromium which were preinstalled on XUbuntu. I have also tried downloading videos to see if the problem were the browsers but no audio was coming out the laptop.

Yes, I have installed pavucontrol. I have entered the Volume Control app and raised the volume to the maximum, and started playing around with output and input devices to find out if maybe it was that. Still, no sound is coming out from my laptop... I don't know what it could be. I have tried many solutions that I found on Google, but I still can't solve the problem.

As an update, I still have not been able to solve my issue. I reiterate, I have tried every combination I could on the audio mixer but the output or input choice does not seem to be the problem.
