Alienware 17.1 Sound Troubleshooting

Asked by R J Davey on 2018-05-19

After a recent (05/19/2018 08:03) update/upgrade cycle, the sound dropped out of this Alienware 17.1 laptop running Ubuntu Xenial, v.16.04 / Linux Mint: Serena, v.18.1.

The Ubuntu community sound troubleshooting guide (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure) requested that a new question be opened for this situation.

After running:
wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && chmod +x ./alsa-info.sh && ./alsa-info.sh

The output is available at the ALSA project website ([http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=6f73cca730b658d7395a79e0118c5264883e5646) and the guide asked that I post it here as well.

You are using Linux Mint. Mint is not supported by Canonical or the Ubuntu community.

Mint's support community is entirely separate from Ubuntu's. I suggest you post on the Mint forum here:
https://forums.linuxmint.com

None of the "Ubuntu based" distributions are supported here.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask R J Davey for more information if necessary.
