Ubuntu 8.10 - sound cut off

Asked by Sorrakritch

Hi guys,

Have anyone of you faced this problems? I'm not sure what's wrong I've done to my system or it is still a bug of ALSA?

Spec: Ubuntu 8.10 with Realtek HD Audio ALC883

Issue: Almost audio played has been cut off at the end.
I've changed the parameter below and reboot.
    ac=mad to ac=mp3,

But the problem remains unresolved...

Please help,Thanks
SRK

Unfortunately it's a known bug. They are working on fixes as fast as possible.

I can encourage you to add your comments and change your status that the "bug" affects you too (in the header of the bug report(s)) so that the developers know.

I am attaching a bug to this "Answer" for you to view.

Can you first ensure the Realtek driver is installed:

http://www.driversdown.com/drivers/Realtek-HD-Audio-driver-5.11-Linux_87941.shtml

And that alsa-base is installed (alsa-base will be installed from Synaptic). Realtek driver needs to be installed from above, or from the vendor.

Ensure that it is selected as your sound source, after installation, from System > Preferences > Sound (including mixer). Use the "test" button by each to confirm.

I also recommend installing "asoundconf-gtk" from Synaptic. After installation, you can run it by going to System > Preferences > Default Sound and then select your RealTek ALC883 card and hit OKAY. This will ensure that it is your default sound card for your system.

If sounds are still being cut off, I would open a new bug report with the exact title of your sound card (RealTek ALC883 describing your problem, symptoms, and steps you have taken to try to fix it). I would also attach the output of your lspci -v command.

Please let me know how the above goes. I'll be here.

It's not something simple that's been over-looked. Here's a 'waggle the wires' checklist
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting

It doesn't sound like this is going to be useful tho, sorry

Thanks, Tom. It's true though.

I jump into the "war," so to speak. Many issues/bugs have been reported with Realtek cards and while I jump to conclusions many of the simple things can be overlooked.

Can you help with this problem?
