Welcome Don,

"My Realtech HD audio player and creative sound x-Fi xtreme audio v5.5 both are not working no sound."

From the menu on the top strip (called panel) open Applications, Accessories, Terminal. Type "asoundconf list" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Please post the result back here. To close the terminal either type exit or press Ctrl+d.

"Would it help to upgrade to the latest version?" No. Ubuntu 8.04 is a Long Term Support version (LTS), is very stable and better suited for someone new to Ubuntu.

"My drivers did not migrate from XP to Ubuntu when I loaded Linux program." That is to be expected, XP is a different world.

"I have a printer that does not work and it is a HP A920". What is the model (Deskjet, Photosmart, etc)?

"Magic Jack phone that does not work." What is it?

"Im trying to learn and wont give up". That's the spirit.

hey great name, first I would do a "sudo alsaconf" to check and see if it picks up any sound card if not I would try what Andre Mangan says above but you might have to use the sudo command before that command.
