no update capabilities on new verson

Asked by oreo344

so my problem is when ever i try and check up for updates it gives me this message "W: GPG error: http://www.backports.org sarge-backports Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY EA8E8B2116BA136C
" when ever i try and check for updates since i got linux ( 1-2 months ago) and i finaly had the time to try and fix it any body got any ideas?

THEN some one said ` "hanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. You will likely need to update your gpg keys for your 3rd-party repository. See their instructions for help, or remove the repository.

Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find. " and how do you do that?

Well, you added a third-party repository to your sources.list. So it's neither a security, nor a ubuntu problem. It's not a good idea to add repositories to your sources.list, if you don't know how to handle them

Nevertheless, you can solve this problem by running "wget -O - http://backports.org/debian/archive.key | sudo apt-key add -" in console.

It's just one command.

1) Open the terminal
2) Paste the command (one line)
3) Press Enter
4) It will ask for your password
5) You're done

It then fetches the key from backports.org and puts it into your keyring.

You may also download the archive.key file by hand, start Synaptic (System->Administration->Synaptic Packet Manger), open "Settings->Repositories", change to Tab "Authentification" and click on "Import file".

1) Save http://backports.org/debian/archive.key to your desktop
2) Open the file in Synaptic (you're at the right place)

Please first close this bug as "solved".

Then open another bug concerning your rhythmbox problem. If I have enough time and knowledge I will jump into that new question.
