installing m-audio audiophile 192 card

Asked by sundowner

I have tried to get the audiophile 192 working in my Ubuntu 8.10 PC. line out works fine from rhythm box but line in does not work. I did have a problem that was answered before but it only worked on playback. What sound recorder can I use, tried audacity but no sound input from m-audio card? Or replay of recording. The 192 driver does not seem to working Ubuntu? Nor does the software that came with the card.

Hardware manufacturers are very reluctant about supporting linux and the Cd's that come with products never have anything useful for linux users so websites have centralised drivers and support to cover issues about a number of different bits of hardware. I think manufacturers need to be pestered, perhaps even hassled, into providing some support. 1 OpenSource driver developed by linux developers with paid support and resources from the manufacturers would mean all linux's and Mac support would be added at a ridiculously low cost to the manufacturers. But they tend not to want to be open and honest about their hardware's capabilities (or lack of). Just my opinion obviously. I also think it's something that will only change under pressure from a large number of users but probably better if we're polite while doing that.

Hopefully the above link will actually help but i'm not sure how specific it gets about individual cards and all their capabilities.

Good luck and regards form
