Sound works in headphone but not on laptop speaker (acer aspire one)

Asked by jmc999

I have an acer aspire one laptop
The headphone jack works fine, however, the laptop speakers don't output any sound. I've tried downloading and compiling the alsa 1.0.19 drivers as suggested in this post:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-media/+question/24639

-Volume is turned up in alsamixer
i'm using "options snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire" in my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

I am currently having the same problem with my 10" Acer Aspire One. Speakers work fine under windows, have never worked under linux (Ubuntu Intrepid). I followed update instructions to alsa from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne

The speakers did work under windows -- the system came default with windows XP installed.

I'm currently running Ubuntu 8.10.

I've also upgraded to kernel 2.6.27-11 if that makes a difference.

I've seen that page. It lists speaker sound as being broken, but doesn't seem to provide any additional detail on the issue. has anyone gotten speaker sound to work on an aspire one with kernel 2.6.27-11?

Hi,

Please try the suggestion from forumuser Flatland2D at this location:

http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=12252

He says he got sound working by installing Ubuntu 9.04 alpha. He also never got the speakers to work in Ubuntu 8.10. I recommend booting from the Ubuntu 9.04 alpha LiveCD first and test if you can hear any sound in the LiveCD session. If you can, install 9.04 from the LiveCD session.

Hope it helps,

Regards,

Mark

Upgrading to intrepid solved all of my speaker problems. Both the alpha, and then the official release as well.

Can you help with this problem?
