Creative XF-I Sound Blaster Fatality problems

Asked by ExplicitViper

i have the drivers for this card installed (i do believe). when i go to the terminal and type asoundconf-gtk, the XFi sound card is selected. then when i go to System>Preferences>Sound, i have

Sound Events
Sound Playback: Creative ALSA Driver X-Fi WaveOut/WaveIn (OSS)

Music and Movies
Sound Playback: Creative ALSA Driver X-Fi WaveOut/WaveIn (OSS)

Audio Conferencing
Sound Playback: Creative ALSA Driver X-Fi WaveOut/WaveIn (OSS)
Sound Capture: Creative ALSA Driver X-Fi WaveOut/WaveIn (OSS)

Default Mixer Tracks
Device: Creative X-Fi (Alsa mixer)

i click "test" that is to the right of these, and i get a real annoying beep sound. but under Audio Conferencing>Sound Capture i click "test" nothing happens, and when i close the test box, i have to fore quit. i can hear the Ubuntu startup noise when i start the computer up, but when i go to www.youtube.com, or play games.... i dont hear ANY sound at all. Detailed help would be AWESOME.

Might be you need to install audio support libraried for flash...

Please open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Hope this helps

If you are still having trouble with this then please post it as a new question. Only the most recent questions tend to get looked at so posting/re-posting a question just before america arrives online after work/school gives the best chance of getting a good few answers - such is the nature of the internet.

If the problem has been resolved then please follow the link to the forum thread and mark it as Solved but please give us a clue how you did manage to solve it and also use the button under where you type stuff in rather than giving me karma credit points for just sending this note to you.

Apologies, good luck and many regards from
Tom :)
