HELP!!! Switched from XP to xubuntu and there's no sound. II just need a point in the right direction

Asked by CrystalCelestinaEvans

A friend of mine put Xubuntu on my laptop. It was a switch from XP. During the time I forgot the side volume controller was down and thought it was because of this. Ppl have told me it isn't so. I looked in Synaptic and made sure ALSA base was installed and Linux sound base. Both are. I have no clue where to go from here

Hello CrystalCelestinaEvans,

looks like your audio adaptor is being detected, and the snd_intel8x0 is being loaded for it. try double clicking on the speaker icon in your taskbar next to the clock and tinkering with the volume sliders to see if you get any audio

I've actually done that before, just because the colume controls looked so different from what I'm used to. I tried it again. And I've got nothing. Are there certain things that negate each other or things I should have off? I've tried up and down with everything while a video was on and nothing

There's a Preferences button in that mixer type gui that allows you to add in other channels, just add a few at a time. Also maybe this helps?

Good luck with this

same problem here. audio adapter detected. volume sliders played with. tried lots of searches and lots of solutions (e.g. reinstalling alsa, trying then uninstalling pulse audio). now i want to try someone's solution of setting audio ouput as alsa; mine's pulse. where's audio preferences?
