Your audio device is:

01:05.0 Multimedia audio controller: ESS Technology ES1988 Allegro-1 (rev 12)

you have already reported this https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/323273

please open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

alsamixer

and unmute and raise devices to a non zero values....

hope this helps

Typing in the command

alsamixer

should open up a gui which will allow you to see sliders you can adjust with your mouse. you may need to add more channels in by clicking on preferences and ticking a few boxes.

Good luck with this

Tom :)

Oh pleeeease when you reply to an email from here please cut out the bit we send you. If you follow the link to the thread for this question you'll see that we already have all that posted up here. At the moment the thread length doubles each time you reply. Don't worry tho, we all did it when we first started so we understand why.

Thanks and regards from

lol, its ok and you're welcome (although not b=necessarily in that order heheheh ;) )

Go up to the top taskbar and click on Applications menu, then click on Accessories and then click on Terminal at the end of the list. This should open a console you can type commands into so we call it a terminal console

(lol, actually it looks like the green screens that used to be on old terminal workstations that were connected to a Unix server - at least the colours have been updated tho. A new bunch of people showed up but they only had tiny little machines, no big servers or anything and they called their equivalent a 'command window' for their Windows 95)

Ok, anyway into the terminal console try typing

alsamixer

and then you should get a nice Graphical User Interface which looks a bit like a mixing desk and has volume sliders and mute buttons which are all easier to look at than explain. Try it and see :)

Tom :)

If you are still having trouble with this then please post it as a new question. Only the most recent questions tend to get looked at so posting/reposting a question just before america arrives online gives the best chance of getting a good few answers.

If the problem has been resolved then please follow the link to the forum thread and mark it as Solved.

Good luck and many regards from
Tom :)
