no sound lubuntu 16.1 nvidia mcp67 card hp pavilion

Running Lubuntu 16.1 on HP DV2500 ( service tag hp dv2810us) p/n kn996ua. No sound. also tried usb headset and earphone plug in. still no sound out.

by following community guide for sound problems was able to fix problem. I believe issue related to correct driver for nvidia mcp67 but I followed several recommendations and rebooted several times so not completely sure what fixed it. Thanks for any consideration in advance.
