Sound Problem Cirrus Logic

Asked by Helmut_S on 2007-04-12

Hello,

since yesterday i had some problems with my soundcard. A few days ago i made a fresh installation of Ubuntu 6.10. All works fine. After an automatic upgrade the sound didn't work possible as mistake of any lib.

I looked in google and many other information but i didn't found any mistake.

I use a IBM Thinkpad T21:

I've checked the Sound Control and nothing is on mute. If i hit the button for the soundmixer on my laptop a windows starts in the show me the actual volume.
I've checked the internal speaker and external speakers - nothing works.

Any idea? and sorry for my broken english.

Marco Rodrigues (gothicx) said : #1

Do this:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

And upgrade your kernel... Maybe it will fix it!

Hi Mr. Rodrigues,

thanks for your input. I've try it. First of all the output:
pt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

After that i do a sound check: System -> Preferences -> Sound
I test the option: Auto, Alsa, cs46xx

Sorry but it didn't work. After that i reboot and do the test again. The results are the same: There isn't any sound.

One more idea?

Marco Rodrigues (gothicx) said : #3

Upgrade to feisty.. :-)

Helmut_S (scq1965) said : #4

Hi,

is there an easy way to do it?

Marco Rodrigues (gothicx) said : #5

Just do:

sudo update-manager -d

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FeistyUpgrades

Helmut_S (scq1965) said : #6

OK: I've done the job.

Now uname give the following output: uname -r
2.6.20-14-generic

But the sound didn_t work.

Marco Rodrigues (gothicx) said : #7

Nice.. :-)

You've a new kernel.. it's strange don't have sound.. did you try to find something at http://ubuntuforums.org !?

Helmut_S (scq1965) said : #8

I looked in many forums in the internet for this problem. Is there any way to do a reconfigure for the sound device.

Additonal I'll do a search in the ubuntufoums.

Hi,

today I solved my problem. I've done the following steps:
/etc/init.d/alsa-utils reset
etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart

After these steps the sound was fine.
