front headphone jack not working ubuntu 16.04, working fine in windows

Asked by Parva Thaker

i am dual-booting win 10 and ubuntu 16.04, in ubuntu itself, the back speaker jacks work fine, so does the front mic jack
the only problem lies in the front headphone jack which is perfectly functional in windows, but does not function in ubuntu,
in sound settings it shows up as plugged in but the test doesn't give any sound, neither does system sounds or anything alse

i have done lots of different things from lots of different places with no result

i did every thing posted here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

the headphone jack still doesn't work, it still comes up as pluged in

this is what it wanted me to post:

If you run:

alsamixer

Are all levels maxed and unmuted?

I suspect this is a general issue for all owners of the MAXIMUS VIII HERO motherboard.

Please read this:

https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?87613-Maximus-VIII-Hero-and-Linux

and this:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+question/295204

So I suggest logging a bug report, because this probably impacts several users....
