xerius tvtime problems

This is a new install of Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit. Tvtime is not working properly.
Picture: It alternates between good, and washed-out purple and green. I discovered that cycling the input source to S-Video and back to Television clears it up sometimes. Itś annoying.

Sound: works perfectly in Firefox browser for videos/music, but tvtime has constant stuttering / dropout that is quite annoying. By constant, I mean every second to 5 seconds.

I tried removing pulseaudio per a troubleshooting solution I found on Ubuntu One, but it had no effect. Given that sound works well elsewhere, I suspect the problem is something in Tvtime, but have no idea where to go from here. I've fiddled with all manner of settings in Tvtime to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
