Sound system stopped working after 8.04.1 upgrade

Asked by cmnorton

Binary package hint: alsa-base

I am running Kubuntu 8.04.1 on a Thinkpad T61p. My sound ran fine on 7.10, with

options snd-hda-intel model=thinkpad-t61p

added to the bottom of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

Now, with and without this line, sound does not work. I had a very successful upgrade from Kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04.1, despite the fact the sound system stoppped working. The upgrade went smoothly, and was worlds apart from the 8.04 upgrade, which announced it had failed all the way at its end.

IWhat do I need to attach to this bug report to assist in finding out why the sound system stopped? It is enabled?

Thanks.

This is not a bug, but instead is a mis-understanding of how to configure the sound system.

Your last comment suggests you found out how to enable sound. However: this question is still open. So I'm not sure whether your problem has been solved. If not, you might want to have a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems.
