HP Pavillion HDX Laptop Hardy Heron No sound

I have a HP pavillion HDX laptop and the sound does not work in Ubuntu(8.04) It works in vista though. I have tried the other mixer tracks too.. I have used the update manager too. THe laptop has four speakers and a reflex subwoofer.

The sound card may not be compatible. Find out the model and manufacturer of your sound card and look here to see if it's compatible: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsSoundCards

Is very easy to solve.
The point is that Ubuntu mistakenly recognizes main speakers, and assign them as "surround" speakers.
In order to solve you must change the volume slider from "Main" to "Surround" speakers. Please, do this:
* right click in main volume icon
* Go to preferences and select "Surround" speakers.
* That's all... you can now modify the volume and use the sound in your laptop.

I have an HDX9050ES and it works perfectly.

THis helped i guess lol. I did it but there was still no sound then I was just going through the sound panel and stuff and playing with stuff and it started working. The sound quality is not as good as it could be though =/ I never thought out of anyone who bought an HDX would end up having Linux or a Linux partition.! Thanks

Does your's make an annoying long sound everytime you click a drop down box in the sound preferences panel for assigning a sound to something like logging in? LIke Dahhhhhhhhhh and it gets louder and then fades. Kind of like voices.
