sound is off when returning back from suspension

After coming back from suspended Ubuntu 8.04 amd64 I have no sound at all, although the applications keep running as if there were sound. To have it back I have to restart the laptop (a COMPAL IFL90) for now.

You wouldn't by any chance be using the intel audio device? I had the same problem and solved it with this thread

I have same problem too. sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload works for me.
