no sound after updating to ubuntu 16.04

On august 1st i updated from ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04. The update gave no problems. It is just that there is no more sound coming from my speakers and headphones. The soundcard is my pc is Realtek ALC882. I have found several trouble shooting pages and i tried all of them but no sound. Here is the print from step 3. Who knows what to do?

You have defined 2 different model options at the same time (ALC882 and ref) , probably defined in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. This should never be done, as it probably only makes the sound issues worse. Only test ONE model option at a time between reboots of your computer.

Please try this procedure:

Step 1: Open a Terminal

Step 2: Run the following command (copy/paste command into the Terminal
and then hit <enter>)

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

In the gedit editor, scroll down to the last lines of the alsa-base.conf
file and ADD these 2 lines to the end of the alsa-base.conf file (with
the file open inside the gedit editor!):

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=auto

In the gedit editor, scroll down to the last lines of the alsa-base.conf
file and DELETE the 2 lines in the alsa-base.conf file (with
the file open inside the gedit editor!) containing these entries:

model=ALC882
model=ref position_fix=1

Save the changes to the alsa-base.conf file. So only model=auto should be defined as model option in that file.

Step 3: Run this Terminal command:

sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get dist-upgrade; sudo apt-get install pavucontrol linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils lightdm ubuntu-desktop linux-image-`uname -r` libasound2; sudo apt-get -y --reinstall install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils lightdm ubuntu-desktop linux-image-`uname -r` libasound2; killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse*; ubuntu-support-status; sudo usermod -aG `cat /etc/group | grep -e '^pulse:' -e '^audio:' -e '^pulse-access:' -e '^pulse-rt:' -e '^video:' | awk -F: '{print $1}' | tr '\n' ',' | sed 's:,$::g'` `whoami`

Step 4: Reboot pc and retest sound using both headphones and speakers.
Test all audio jacks on the front and the back of your PC.

Step 5: Run pavucontrol in a Terminal and make sure volume is not muted and set to 90% on all mixer channels. Perform same check using alsamixer as well.

Step 6: If sound is still not working after a reboot, replace the auto
model option with one of the model options below (for example: medion
) and then reboot and retest sound again.

Desperately seeking for a solutiun, finally encountered this on a ubuntu forum. Tried it and i have sound again!

Re: No sound after 16.04 upgrade
I had some PulseAudio misconfigurations in my home dir, deleting (moving to tmp exactly) ~/.config/pulse directory and logout/login helped me.
