No Sound Output Xonar DX Virtuoso 100 Sound Card

Hey all,

I did a fresh installation of Ubuntu 16.04 and am getting no sound through any means via my sound card - a Xonar DX Virtuoso 100. It is recognized in the Sound Settings pane and I am able to select it as the device I wish to output through. It even shows as running the operation when I go through the test sound options in the settings pane and monitor it via pulseaudio volume control. ALSA all seems to be up to date.

I have run the following command and tried killing and rebooting pulseaudio a couple of times:

Do you get sound in headphones?

Play a long piece of audio then connect your speakers and plug them sequentially on each socket. Obviously turn the speakers down between plug out and in so you don't damage them.

Is the audio coming out of the onboard sound card? If so, have you tried disabling it in BIOS (I assume it is redundant due to the sound card you have).

Got it worked out.

I disabled the onboard card in BIOS - that didn't get me anywhere. Also checked that none of the other outputs were working. Usually the s/pdif glows red when it's working so I noticed that that wasn't going on and thought I'd open up the machine to check that nothing got loose with the connections. All seemed well. Eventually I just got lucky: the soundcard has the attachment hooked up for the machine's front headphone jack, and in ALSA Mixer I just started checking and unchecking some of the buttons to see what they did. Turns out that having "Front" checked didn't mean front L/R as I had first assumed. It meant the front attachment. Once I unchecked that things started working just fine. A little annoying since it seems like you should be able to run both simultaneously but maybe the soundcard doesn't have a dedicated headphone amplifier or something like that (there's no headphone output on the back - the manual just has you plug headphones in to the regular front l/r output). Not a big deal though since I can use the headphone output on the speakers if I ever want to and I don't ever use a microhpone.
