Unable to configure surround 5.1 sound

I tried to follow many guides and forums including:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DigitalAC-3Pulseaudio
but still can't get surround audio working.

Please!!! help...

I installed the a52 plugin. everything passed ok. no errors. still:
