No sound in Headphones - Ubuntu 16.04

I'm using a Dell Latitude 3540 Laptop and updates to Ubuntu 116.04 LTS recently . Everything is working fine but the sound in headphones is not coming.

The internal speakers are working fine. Even though I insert the headphone, the sound is still coming from the speakers and there is no pop-up for headphone detection too.

I tried the solution stated in Question :291874 ( https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+question/291874 ) but it also doesn’t seem to work.

I have tried these two entries :

1. options snd-hda-intel model=dell
2. options snd-hda-intel model=generic

But both times the issue persists. Kindly suggest some solution.

I see at least 2 issues in your Terminal output:

Issue 1) I suggest replacing the following model option

model=,dell-headset-dock

with this model option

model=dell-headset-dock

because your ALSA output only shows a single sound card; so no need to differentiate using a comma (,)

Issue 2) Your Terminal output shows several muted mixer channels (Headphone and Headphone mic)

Use alsamixer in a Terminal session and unmute and increase volume to 100% on the following mixer channels:

Headphone
Headphone mic

Then reboot and retest audio output.

Test all audio jacks at the front and the back of your PC.

Hi .. Thanks for the reply !

I did what you suggested and finally got it working .. Only issue I faced was I was unable to save the alsamixer settings .. Everytime I rebooted, it went back to default state.

So found some info on some online threads ( http://askubuntu.com/questions/50067/howto-save-alsamixer-settings ) and got it working !
