No Sound in Ubuntu 14.04 with Asus Maximus VIII Gene mobo

Hi all

I've just made a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04.3 in a PC with the motherboard Asus Maximus VIII Gene. It has a Realtek Audio.
Can you please help me on this?

No sound at all. Not through the line out in the back or in the front audio! Also there are no devices in the Output Sound Settings (play sound through).
This seems to contradict some of the diagnostics I’ve pasted above

I installed dkms:

sudo apt-get install dkms
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/alsa-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install oem-audio-hda-daily-lts-vivid-dkms

appearing sound, but front audio not work (front mic is work, 5.1 output work).

dmesg showw error:
snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: failed to add i915_bpo component master (-19)

and
input: HDA Intel PCH Front Headphone as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.3/sound/card0/input22

I do not know what to do. before everything worked, but I decided to change the hard drive and reinstall the system :(

Hey, I have a new installation of Ubuntu 14.04.3 on the ASUS Maximus VIII Hero + Intel i7-6700K and I'm having similar issues with no sound whatsoever.

I'm not sure if this is related as it's not the exact same board, but I wanted to let you know that you aren't alone with your sound issue!

Audio works on Windows 7, but not Ubuntu...

I finally got my sound working. Here's what I did.

I followed the first solution here:

I restarted, and still couldn't hear anything. Then I removed alsa and pulse audio:
sudo apt-get remove --purge alsa-base pulseaudio

I restarted again, and the sound was working. However, the command above also removed the ability for me to change various desktop settings (sound, background, etc.)

But, when I reinstalled alsa and pulseaudio (via sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop), the sound stopped working again. After I purged them again, and restarted, I was able to get my sound back.

I'm not knowledgeable to understand why this is so. Hopefully somebody who is, can explain.
