recent (3days) software update caused persistent alsa error in audacious (Ubuntu Trusty)
ALSA error: snd_pcm_
All other sound players (vlc, mplayer, etc) work as normal.

Error repeats with .mp3. .ogg, .flac
OnLine search found same error over past five years, but no solution that fit my OS setup.
Any others reporting this error message coincident with recent Ubuntu 14.04.03 updates?

Please inform the person helping you.
I have today removed and purged all Audacious files incl. desktops, and reinstalled latest from Webupd8.... no joy!
I have removed and purged alsa and pulseaudio, then reloaded both. No change. The alsa error msg
ALSA error: snd_pcm_
persists in both audacious and audacious-QT, no matter whether I load MP3, OGG, FLAC, where before this week audacious was performing perfectly. I hate to lose the daily use of my favorite sound app.

My last post was poorly formatted. If you read only the first line, sounds as if PROBLEM SOLVED. But not so fast.......
The first line reformatted is Audacious-3.6.2 compiled and installed successfully, BUT audacious-plugins make failed as shown below:

CLOSURE on audaqcious-plugins compilation (note immediately above)
I rebuilt FFMPEG-2.8 with --enable-shared. That change cleared up the error noted above. I got the clue from

Then I reset APT-GET BUILD-DEP for both audacious-3.6.2 and audacious-
Now audacious runs, except that I still have the original error with alsa. Alsa works correctly with every other app, including alsaplayer, so it is a configuration issue that will be solved, soon I hope.
