No Digital Sound Out

In Mint 17.2 (Ubuntu 14.04.3) I am failing to get SPDIF 2-channel (digital) sound into the coaxial input on my receiver from the coaxial output on the motherboard (ATI chip) . Analog sound output works fine. Both analog and digital sound work fine in my dual boot WIN 7 OS. My hardware is an HP a1250n Media Center with a 64-bit AMD processor. I have tried steps in the Ubuntu SoundTroubleshootingProcedure and the Ubuntu SoundTroubleshooting document and suggestions from web forums to no avail. From the information below, can someone please advise me how to get the digital sound working.

Mint is not supported by the Ubuntu community. It's support community is entirely separate from Ubuntu's. I suggest you post on the Mint forum:
