If you run:

alsamixer

Are all levels maxed and unmuted. Use F6 to switch sound devices to make sure thy are all good. Use cursors to select and edit levels and M to un/mute

Thanks

I think so because they are all un muted showing the volume level in 3 colours and when u press f6 its shows the default sound card that is 0 HDA Intel

Please try this solution:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/680844/comments/6

So please try this procedure:

1. copy-paste the following command into the Terminal:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

2. Using the gedit editor, add the following lines to the end of the
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file:

# Keep snd-pcsp from beeing loaded as first soundcard
options snd-pcsp index=-2
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=thinkpad

3. SAVE the change to the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file.

4. reboot and retest sound using headphones and speakers

Test all audio jacks at the front and the back of your PC.

If this does not help, I suggest booting a LiveUSB session of Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS and testing the headphones during the LiveUSB session.
