Realtek ALC662 rev3 Sound crackles and pops

Tried everything I could find. Only making the sound worse. I'm using a DIY desktop made in China. I'm using some desktop speakers for sound. My Windows OSes work fine with sound. I installed Ubuntu about 8 months ago but didn't need the sound till now. I want to use Hydrogen to program drums. On an aside, if I program drums with Hydrogen using this crap sound system and save to .wav , will the output carry the crap sound along with? Thanks to anyone who can help...

Thank you for taking the time to help. I did what you suggested, but I can't tell any difference. Some mp3s and 4s have an occasional glitch, others are greatly affected by the cutting in and out, scratching sound. I'm going to try and install the restricted extras, because I've done everything I could find. I may have been doing things I shouldn't. I'm just trying to solve the problem with the limited knowledge I have.
Any other advice would be appreciated.

After installing the restricted extras, the problem seems to be less, but it's still there and annoying. I followed the Ubuntu 16+ step sound troubleshooting procedure. Tried everything that comes up on ask.com. Tried youtube. No one else has these scratchy sound problems?

If you install the xfce4 package then log off then login to the new XFCE session on the login page, is it OK?

Thanks again Andrew.
I did what you suggested, but the sound still cuts in and out. Not too bad on some tracks, but terrible on others. And Hydrogen is unusable. I'm going to try installing KX Studio, and see how that does. I'm giving up on Ubuntu for now.
