can't adjust volume
My sound used to work, not sure when/why it broke.
The weird thing is that my volume is not muted. It is stuck at a certain volume--pretty quiet, but audible. Hard to hear a phone call, though.
The volume applet next to the system clock in the top right is grayed out. My hardware volume buttons, which used to work, do not anymore. I have a Dell E6530.
When I click the applet icon, 'silentigi' is checked. (My system is in Esperanto; that should translate to 'to cause to be silent', so, mute?). But my computer isn't muted... I cannot uncheck it there. It shows the volume as 0%, and unadjustable.
When I click 'Sound Settings' under the applet dropdown menu, the volume looks to be at 0, and it has 'mute' checked, I think. I can adjust the volume here and uncheck 'mute'. It has no effect on my audio volume levels, however, no matter what I do. When I close the settings window and then reopen it, however, the volume is back down to 0, even if I had left it at a higher level. Mute stays unchecked, but again, it doesn't do anything either way.
Not sure what else to do.
