Asked by Edward Smith-Rowland

I can't get sound - This is a new problem. I've had sound for a long time over several Ubuntu releases. Speakers plugged in and powered. Nothing. Configure sound - test - nothing.

I'm going through https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure.

i'm about to reboot after
sudo killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.config/pulse/* ; rm -rf ~/.pulse*; rm -rf ~/.config/pulse

Any other ideas though?

We cannot see your system. So you need to give us the technical details first....

Please send us the full Terminal output from step 3 and step 4 from the following procedure:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

The link doesn't say "sudo killall" at all, it is to be ran as your user (without sudo).... why are you adding sudo when the guide CLEARLY shows it without....?

What is the output of:

wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && chmod +x ./alsa-info.sh && ./alsa-info.sh -upload

Do NOT add sudo.

Thanks
