Sound quit working while I was trying to get digital out to function
I used to have a speaker icon on the upper toolbar in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and I could hear sound from music, movies, games, etc.
Then I decided to try and get the digital output (SPDIF) working. After a bit of mucking about (sorry, can't remember what all I did; tried to follow online posts/responses) I no longer have any sound.
If I open System Settings > Sound, there are no options to select in the 'Play Sound Through' section under the 'Output' tab. However, 'Front Microphone, Built-in Audio' does show up under the 'Input' tab.
